In response to the spike in covid and non-covid related cases this past winter, the Department of Health released a "school operating guide" that was sent to all schools in Victoria. A particular statement however has caught the eyes of parents and students all across the state.
The statement reads
"It is strongly recommended by the Department of Health that face masks are worn in indoor settings, with face masks mandatory for those aged 8 and over who are household contacts and attending school"
After exiting the worlds longest lockdown and quarantining for the last two years, many students and parents alike are tired and frustrated at the need of masks. Particularly students who have had to come in and out of 'online learning' have made it abundantly clear that they do not want to wear masks anymore.
We interviewed a student at Forest Hill College about their opinion on the latest news regarding masks.
"Personally, I think masks are redundant, they clearly have not shown to be effective but the sheep still haven't figured that one out. I haven't gotten the dose (covid vaccine) and don't plan to. It's about time we've been given the option to make decisions about our bodies that don't impede onto our personal lives"
But what do you think? Should masks become mandatory? Do they even work?
Should masks become mandatory?
They should be mandatory
They shouldn't be mandatory
