In recent years, there have been very few 'generational talents' that have lived up to their pre-draft hype. Andrew Wiggins fell short to his 'Canadian Kobe' comparison, Zion Williamson has had an injury riddled career so far and Markelle Fultz forgot how to shoot a basketball. But heading into the 2022-23 season, you'll be able to find many teams tanking to draft the newest generational talent, Victor Wenbanyama.
Wenbanyama's incredible, 7'3 frame and 7'9 wingspan paired with his agility, defensive IQ and sharpshooting has locked him into being the consensus 2023 first overall pick. His figure resembles a young Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, his playmaking skills like back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic and his shot creation that of superstar Kevin Durant.
This is what NBA writer Patrick Redford
“Which is to say: Wembanyama is as exciting of a prospect since at least LeBron James.”
We'll see what Wenbanyama can do this upcoming season as well as which teams are willing to tank to the first overall pick. What do you think of Victor Wenbanyama, future bust or the biggest generational talent since LeBron James.
