WHAT'S NEXT? Brittney Griner STILL detained in Russia!

Brittney Griner, the WNBA superstar has been detained in Russia since her visit in February. Russian officials report that they found hashish oil (cannabis) in a vape cartridge during an airport search near Moscow.

Brittney, arguably the biggest face of the WNBA was playing for the UMMC Yekaterinburg, a professional women's basketball team during the WNBA offseason when she was caught. Since then, she has pleaded guilty in her court case in hopes to receive a shorter sentence and during that time possibly enact a prisoner switch.

Many speculate that because of Brittney's WNBA superstar status and open LGBTQ+ sexuality, that Russia may have been planning this capture. Russia and Putin especially has always maintained an anti-LGBTQ+ stance and it wouldn't be surprising had this been the main determining factor to why she's been imprisoned.

Many NBA stars and celebrities have reached out and urged people to try and help Brittney get out of Russia. As of now, there hasn't been any timeline on when she'll be back but it is certainly a testament to how corrupt Russia can be.
